Boudoir Maternity Portraits

This is something I've always wanted to do, so when Denise asked me to shoot some semi-nude pregnancy photos, I jumped at the idea! Denise had lots of good ideas, so there was a lot of collaboration going on with backdrops, outfits (or non-outfits), etc. I'm SO, so happy with the way that these turned out. Denise is a natural model and knows how to work the camera. The natural light in her Boulder, Colorado home matched the vibe of our images perfectly. We set up a studio in the upstairs area of her house where she had this sweet vintage couch and matching rug. Shabby chic! I love the rich colors and textures. So psyched to keep on doing shoots like this, celebrating beautiful women during a unique time in their lives.

The Brownchicken Browncow Stringband

I had the pleasure of hosting the Brownchicken Browncow Stringband as they passed through Golden, Colorado on their national concert tour last month. The newest member of the band, Miss Kat Fountain, is a dear friend of mine from back home in Connecticut. The crew needed some new shots that included Kat so we took these outside of my house. Matt the bassist has tried putting some of these on a black background and they look really nice, eliminating the background clutter. These fabulous people and musicians were a joy to have around and our home was full of great food and great music in between their shows. I could tell you who plays what, but they all play about 15 instruments, thus the wall of sound next to the van. (By the way, they are raising money to replace the van, "The Predator," on Kickstarter. Check it out and throw down a few bucks if you have it to spare! It'll help them get their kick-ass music to a town near you.
You can listen to their music here:
The moral of the story is... if Kat, Xander, Orion, Matt & Justin ask if they can crash on your floor for a few days - do it. You will be repaid grandly with a full belly and a full heart. Come back soon, guys!

Orion cooks up a mean dinner. (Mean in a good way).

The view through the dog fence... Orion on mandolin.

Matt and his moustache.

Xander in the kitchen.

Yes, Kat the harmonica/harp player in also learning trombone.

Cheryl & Family in Keystone

Cheryl and their family headed to Keystone, Colorado for some family vacation time. They used to live in Colorado but now the crew lives in Florida. So while back visiting their old stomping grounds, we took some portraits of them in the snow-covered woods. What a fun family! It was really fun for me to see how well they all got along and genuinely love each other. And you can see it in the photos as well. Enjoy!

Mindi & Family Frisco Portraits

Mindi and her family came from Kansas for vacation in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. We took portraits at the Frisco Historical Park among the old buildings. The weather looked like it was going to be fine and dandy. Not super freezing, a bit overcast (which I prefer for an outdoor studio type of look and consistent lighting). But then last minute- and by last minute I mean pretty much the moment her four young children stepped out of the car- the wind picked up. And I mean PICKED UP. Like blizzard style, assuming there had been any snow in Summit County at all this year (but that's a whole 'nother story...)

After much bundling in blankets and coats and trying to embrace our adventure, we sought shelter in the old schoolhouse. The kids got to warm up for a bit looking at the old trains, and the oldest Michael tried out my camera for a while (camera strap around the neck, of course).

The kids got a kick out of the old jail cell (below).

Once the kids were all snuggled away back in the van and we managed a few good shots where everyone was looking at the camera and had a look on their face that was passable as content and not crying (Kids! This is how it goes!), we took some good shots of the adults. Turns out kids can keep you from focusing on some good photos of yourselves as a couple. Hope you two enjoy these and had some fun together. I know I did!
